Summer Day Camp to start June 30, 2014

6/20/2014

We are now enrolling for our summer day camp.  Day camps at Hand In Hand Farm are full of fun, educational activities and help to build the characters of tomorrow's adults!  Every session is different.

We usually visit multiple businesses or have professionals visit us to share their careers, pick up some of the sixty tons of hay that we'll need for the winter, participate in events with other agencies, and have people haul in horses that need work.

Most days, kids clean stalls and help with other jobs in the morning.  Then we eat lunch together, and in the afternoon we bring the horses in for activities.  Other kids help with projects, do gardening, or work on academics with tutors.

Currently, we are on the schedule for CEF's Five-Day Club, and have military recruiters and the county sheriff scheduled for career exploration.

We plan on holding the day camp June 30 to August 22, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 9 am to 4 pm.  The last day of camp will be Saturday, August 23, and we hope to have a celebration from 3 pm to 4 pm.  Participants, volunteers, and staff can invite friends, family, and visitors to help us celebrate.

People may enroll for as many weeks as they want as long as there is space, and there are no deadlines for enrollment.  The cost is a $5/day/participant fee which can be reduced or waived by prior arrangement.  New participants and their guardians should plan on attending a one-hour tour and orientation together prior to or at the beginning of the first day attended.  Give us a call at 541-451-1243 to make arrangements.

We serve all ages of children to young adult. Children age five and under, or those with special needs, may need to be accompanied by their own attendant.  Participants should dress in layers to be prepared for the chilly mornings and hot afternoons.  Wear close-toed shoes, long pants, bring gloves if you have them.  Bring a sack lunch that does not need to be refrigerated or reheated, and a water bottle.

The pictures below are from our day camp last year, and are just a small sample of the types of activities we usually do.

Spring Break Day Camp 2014 already under way, but still enrolling

3/21/2014

We had just a few campers out this week since Lebanon had some inservice days the last part of the week. A much larger group is expected for the actual week of Spring Break, but we still have room for other campers as it stands.  We'll see how we feel about that on Monday after the main group shows up!

The weather really cooperated this week: mornings have been chilly with warm, sunny afternoons.  It has also been fun to have some kids for camp this week that we haven't seen for some time, as well as some new kids.

If you'd like to enroll a child in camp, there's still time.  Click on the day camp event on the calendar for details of what's involved.

Sponsors Are Needed

They've done their part, now can we do ours?

During our Spring Break Day Camp last week, we asked our participants if they would write letters to friends, family members, and businesses they frequent to request sponsorship of their activities at the farm.  The following kids had their letters written and addressed by the next day.  We would like to honor their service here.

We do not charge our participants fees, instead we rely on donations from individuals, churches, civic organizations, and businesses to keep this mission going and growing.  With our current levels of participation and an all-volunteer staff, sponsorship levels for one month are as follows:
Child:
Horse:
Family:
Parenting Class:

$120
$150
$250
$650

Please consider sponsoring at one of these levels or whatever you can afford.  Our nonprofit can provide services on a more reliable basis with the  steady income stream that can be provided by an ongoing monthly pledge.
